More Chair

More work on the chair today. A little scared of rushing it. I am still sure I am not putting enough paint on the canvas. I'm not sure about the warmth on the closest arm - it seems a little too warm - daylight check required.

This morning when I got to work I decided to spend the time that I normally surf the net before the day starts (we always get to work about 45 minutes early) walking around the football pitch to get some exercise. The sky was amazing and I took my time to analyse the colours. We had had a huge storm in the night and the remnants of the storm clouds lingered and were being stroked by the rising sun. Wonderful brilliant glowing oranges and yellow with deep violet clouds and the palest blue early motning skies. With each lap of the track the sky had changed. Spending half an hour on analysis made me realise how incredibly quickly light changes at that time of day. After my 30 minutes my cheeks were glowing and my nose, ears and fingers were frozen and I was ready to crawl back into a cosy bed and not at all like going to work.

Your going fast Anita, and it looks good. Can hardly wait to see the next update.

It's coming on beautifully. I don't feel there is such a thing as too much or too little paint, if the canvas shows then that becomes part of the thing and if it's hidden that's simply a different texture. There's a real cushiony texture to this, soft and tactile. Perhaps the confusion is not so much warmth and coolness but the direction of the light? Where the shapes turn away from the light they might become a little darker?

omg, Anita. this is coming along incredibly well! i see nothing wrong with the temperature of your colors but i don't work in such high realism either so you are the better judge. i love this!

Mary - I am taking some time off over Christmas and New Year and hope to get quite a lot done in daylight hours.

Thank you - Nick - I think you might find the light clarified when you see the whole picture.

Billie - If the colour looks good in daylight I'll leave it. You know how artificial light makes everything look odd.

Annie - thank you.

Anita, congratulations on tackling the chair! I really like the colors you are putting into it. Don't worry about how much paint you put on the canvas. If you decide you should have used more, it can be something you learned for your next painting. :)
And congrats too on walking instead of surfing. I find I have to make exercise a priority over art or I would never exercise! But it sounds like you got a two for one deal!

It's so magical watching the colour slowly emerge from your grisaille, Anita. I totally understand your nervousness - when you've brought a painting to such a level of development, it is so beautiful already that it would be tempting to quit while one is ahead. But, of course, we can already see it is going to sing in colour.

IMHO I think your fine veils of colour are what will make make this picture. Now I too am keen to know what Michael is going to say.
