Comfort Zone

Spent a few hours this morning putting on more colour on the chair - begin to feel it coming out of the grisaille now. I'm experiencing something quite strange here - the colours should be the same value as the grisaille - and when you get it right its like there is no colour because it just melts into the picture. And then stand back and bingo its coloured. Looking at this photo I'm not sure that the colour is quite accurate as the distant arm is not nearly such a warm orange IRL.

My Christmas present to myself came today - some books on painting. I am inspired!!! Lots of tips such as painting 2" x 3" colour studies, daily practices, and all sorts of wonderful colour advice. I am in heaven!

Anita, this is looking beautiful and you are going so fast, you will be done with this very soon and it will be a fantastic piece.

Its lovely to see the colour appearing in this. Quite magical both to view and to complete I would think.

Aren't new books fabulous? There's nothing better for inspiration.

Mary - I am trying to do several hours a day while I am off work this week - hoping to nail this sucker before the end of January!

Billie - its coming!

Jeanette - the books are great! Can't wait to get started. being good though and have my session on the chair to do first today before getting stuck in.

Rose - this has been two years in the making. I started the charcoal (its on my website) around November 2006 and have been working on the grisaille well over a year. About time I had this one finished.

Grisaille, like nothing else, gives oil paint such depth and luminosity. Your patience has been rewarded. Awesome.

Robyn - I hope its all going to be worth it when its finished. After all this time it would be a horrible let down to have it flop!
