Alexis

Today I wanted to experiment - not really sure what I am doing when it comes to watercolour. I know the background isn't quite the way I want it but will wait until it has completly dried before I decide if i will continue deepening the background. I'd really like to have puddles of colour overlapping the hair but I am a little cowardly about throwing the paint around. Also wonder how much more I can push the tonal values in the face.

This is lovely Anita. Things always do seem to end up lighter and its a problem I acknowledge. I'm timid with deep colours, but its good to just splash them on and see what happens sometimes.

I think you have room for some more glazes on the face if you wanted them.

What a wonderful surprise to see a watercolour from you, Anita. What gorgeous sparkling eyes! You don't look at all inexperienced! I think the painting would really pop if you go for a darker background. It was John Singer Sargent you made me realise what the darkest darks can do for watercolour. Of course, I don't always remember the lesson ;)

Billie - this was fun to do though I got more and more nervous as I went along - that "don't want to ruin it" thing!

Jeanette - I did wash the cheeks with some more cad red for a glow - surprising how little watercolour goes a very long way and makes a great difference!

Robin - I took your advice and deepened the background - it did make a huge difference to the piece. Ah those darks!
