Mt Vernon

Summer of 2006, a trip to Mt Vernon. There is the most wonderful walled garden - a lovely haphazard garden with a beautiful orangery and this lovely little summer house.
Doing a lot of homework for the ArtBiz course with Alyson Stansfield, assessing directions and options. Also reading an enormous amount on various blogs about marketing and painting theory.
I did update my website today, something that I have set myself to do every month now so that it doesn't get too out of control.
Also considering going back to a working journal for research and experimentation in order to decide on a direction to take my artwork. Beginning to feel that I have been doing a little of too many things and want to find something to concentrate on Time to go back to take a step back and consider what comes next.

Anita, if you don't mind, what does the "working journal for research and experimentation" look like? A place to capture ideas?

I find it hard to step back and consider also...but feel I need to do so. For me, perhaps not even to change too much, just to remember why I'm doing what I'm doing.

Nice bright colors in this, btw.

Rose - at University we had to keep a journal style sketch book that included magazine cuttings, experiments, photos, writing or our own and others - sort of like building your own reference book rather than just sketches. Your journal ended up so fat that it wouldn't stay shut! I love looking back at my old ones, they really show my working process and how I developed my work.

r.garriott - thank you for your kind comment!

Billie! - they are all in my moleskine - It really doesn't take that long to do one of these little drawings and a quick wash of watercolour. And for those days when the muse is not at home they are great time fillers~

Charming composition and watercolour, Anita. You must be ripe for a sketchbook exchange!

Hi Anita, nice watercolor, may I suggest to use or to try some "broken brush" movements and to mix the borders of the shapes, some Impressionistic move? not too graphic?, waitting to see more my friend.

Alex - thanks for the tips. I need to try watercolour outside of my sketchbook. I am a total amateur when it comes to this medium!
