Painting the Forth Bridge

The Forth Bridge is a cantilever bridge that stretches over the Firth of Forth in Scotland. The story goes that painting it is never-ending - as soon as one coat is finished the maintenance crew goes back to the beginning and starts all over again. I begin to feel the same way about this painting. The back wall is still too warm, I need to cool it down to push it back especially on the right side.

you have your subject to compare it to but it looks great to me!

Funny you should mention the Forth bridge...I just read about that this week and was discussing it with my son. You have it there in RL, but it doesn't look too warm online. It looks great...the warm spot to pull you in...just off center...marvelous Anita. I really love it!

I always find something new in this painting, Anita this time it's that beautiful reflection on the floor from behind the chair. I don't know about the warm spot - I trust the artist :)

I've been to the Firth of Forth! i don't recall a bridge but it was so long ago i'm not surprised.

the chair looks good to me but i can see what you mean about the wall. it's hard to really tell. the image you posted is small. you'll sort it out. have faith!

Ah the joys of tweaking a piece. :-) The perspective you have accomplished is beautiful Anita!

I think we all having paintings that we feel like that about. But taking your time and doing a little here and there keeps it fresh and allows you to see where you need to go with it.

This piece is very appealing. You've really made a statement with it. The simplicity that the viewer sees becomes much more complex after looking at it for awhile.

Terri - I am working from pastel studies and a charcoal for the value study. I started this well over a year ago in Riyadh.

Rose - thank you.

Robyn - its funny how different parts appear in this picture. With each stage of adding colour another section becomes the focus.

Billie - I hope it all comes together in the end - not in any hurry. I predict many layers before this is finished!

Teresa - thank you!

Jeanette - no one can accuse me of rushing it!!

Stacy - is it commitment or a need to be committed?

Lisa - thank you!

They've solved the never-ending problem of painting the Forth Bridge by using an epoxy paint, which last much longer than what they used before. So maybe there's hope for all of us.

Harry - I read that they were using special paint now.

As a child, was always impressed by the painters on the George Washington Bridge between NY and NJ. They rode carts on the great suspension cables or worked in baskets hung from the underside of the roadways. I don't recall how they worked on the towers. Their Sisyphic both inspired admiration and despair. And terror. As soon as they finished in NY, they went back to start again in NJ.
