Bedside

pastel on paper

I have mentioned several times recently my struggle with trees. Admittedly in paint and a desire to make a recognisable painterly tree. Today Jeff Smith posted these really wonderful trees on his blog in pastel.

I like the colours you used to depict the light in the room.

Thanks for sharing Jeff Smith's trees. I think trees are tricky for a lot of people. I have seen the work of very accomplished artists who struggle to do trees well. I do believe it is a struggle one can overcome, eventually! :-)

I like the light play in this pastel. Its tricky to draw it well, but you've done so. I have a bed scene somewhere that I need to put on paper.

Jeff Smith's trees are wonderful. There's a fine line between the too much/not enough when it comes to painting trees. I tend to get lost somewhere in the middle. But practice makes perfect or so they tell me.

Thank you Billie - There are some lovely trees here - I need to just spend time doing studies and get away from this feeling that I need to just complete whole pieces.

Teresa - Jeff's trees are gorgeous. I think, as with everything, trees can be overcome - it just takes practice!

Jeanette - I need to get decent lighting.
