Pansies

Had a great time early one morning when I arrived at work taking photos of these pansies. I think pansies are the most endearing flowers, they seem to have little faces. Pansies are typically only about 4 - 8 inches tall which meant grovelling at ground level on very heavily dew-laden grass (I had muddy knees all day!). Fortunately not many people arrive at work as early as I do or I would have been very embarrassed! The last picture was an accident but I love the way it came out - extremely overexposed. It's almost like a watercolour. The second last is the same flower at the correct exposure. Now I would like to try and get this sort of effect on purpose.

That last one seems to be looking right back at you. Sweet little faces, haven't they? I tried to paint them years ago and made such a mess of it, I've been frightened off.

Since we have such a lot in bloom at the moment, I really should try again. I suspect they will find their way into a linocut.

Pansies are one of my favourite flowers and one of the earliest here. Your photos are showing a new side of you. You have the same creativity in photos as in your art.

Now, which one are you going to paint?

I'm not a flower painter/drawer. They terrify me.

I like pansies as well, so endearing with those little faces and whiskers - a bit cat like.

Simply beautiful. They do look like they have little faces, don't they?

Robyn - I've never tried to paint pansies.

Jeanette - I did flowers before but not inspired by them at the moment. At least not to paint - do enjoy photographing them though.

Billie - so when are you going to paint them - hint hint!

Vivien - are you in league with Billie - actually huge pansies would be amazing a la O'Keefe.

Katie Jane - What always amazes me is how different the colours can be with pansies.
