Just a snippet

I've been very bad at posting lately - mainly because I really didn't feel I had anything to show. However, I've been told that I need to post something so I am doing so (and may even post more in the next day or two!).

I've cut this section out of a pastel that I did (its the best section) and I was pleased with the glassiness of the bottle and the reflected coloured light on the bowl.

Working with pastels is a huge learning curve. I've been without colour in my life for a while and just getting my head back round that is huge! The new medium is another challenge all together! Just figuring out how to hold the pastel took hours! Still each one I do puts together another piece of the puzzle.

I love the furious motion in this piece Anita. Its like you're suddenly on the move about something and honestly you need a little color--who am I kidding--LOTS of color! Its great to see your work again!

Anita, it's SO good to see you posting again! i love the vase! you 'do' glass so well and have a flare for color whether you realize it or not. Bravo on the hatching! i have a terrible time with it.

It is about time... lovely glass. There were more if I am not mistaken. I find the learning curve worth sharing, because it is such fun to see growth. Others learn at the same time, and that is a gift worth sharing. Glad to see you are still "hammering" away at it.

Pastels are challenging, but the colour and instant gratification is wonderful, don't you think?

This is a great piece Anita, I love the hatching effect and optical mix. Please do more and show more.

JayD! Seriously colour is in very short supply here - black, white and tan! Thanks for the comment.

Billie - you do know how colour terrifies me and I have been living in a monotone world too long!

Robin - you know the learning curve with this medium. HOping I get the hang of it soon.

Terri - Thanks!

Mary - can't wait to see what you do with pastels!

Jeanette - Its nice watching the colour build up with the layers. There will be more ........

I keep checking in even when you haven't posted. Today I was rewarded! I love the glassiness of the bottle too and the colours! Looking forward to more pastels, please.

I've got a pastel on my blog today that I'm just coming to the end of. Take a look and see if it gives you any ideas....

Don't forget to use a pastel on its side as well as using its end. You'll be amazed at how you get very attached to tiny scruffy odd shaped bits which are great for dragging across funny shapes on your support. And you need to try abrasive supports if you can get hold of any. Take a look at the poll in the WC pastels forum if you need any persuading! ;)

What a beautiful pastel. To look at this without reading your accompanying text, I'd imagine you to have been a pastellist for years. The glass is ethereal ... I'm very impressed!
