Limited Vision

I've been working with Michael Newberry for the last few weeks and this is almost the end of my first full piece as a result of his mentorship. I'm trying to sum up my experience of being in a country where women are very much second class citizens, and where, as westerners, we are extremely limited in what we can do and see.

So here is "Limited Vision" (working title).
Charcoal on Rives Paper, full sheet.

Anita - if this is the paper you've been having trouble with, it doesn't show. A beautiful piece of work. I love the texture and the shadows and the light and the composition and the symbolism. Also envy you Michael's mentorship. - Robyn

Robyn - thank you for coming by. Trying to make my work have more meaning through concepts.

Honestly Anita, I didn't think your drawing could get any better. That is astounding!
About this Michael Newbury thing ... is it some kind of on-line course? Details Please. :)

Forgot to ask ... can you elaborate on 'art having meaning through concept? For us bohemian heathens. LOL.

I really like this - as has already been said, the composition, the abstract shapes and the skill - and also the underlying idea and mood that comes through strongly.

Anita, as always this is superb rendering and very meaningful. Yes, it is your doorway and it is open but I can't help seeing the stone column that in a way, is an obstacle to freedom. Very good symbolism!

Blu - I sent you email about conceptual art and Michael's programme. I hope you got it.

Vivien - thank you.

Mary - Its funny how once you mention symbollism people start thinking about the piece more and put in their own interpretations - I think that it makes it all worth the struggle seeing others interact with your art!

Anita, I have been meaning to stop in and see what you are up to with your art but time has made me its prisoner lately and apparently, I am now owned by Australians!

Let me say that I am glad that I waited for you to post these last pieces and I think that of everything you have produced, forks included, that these are your best because they are shouting out how you feel at this point in time. I don't think any artist can achieve a better result when faced with one's own personal challenges and frustrations.
Don't get lost on your way back to us. We hold you dear and miss you very much.
